Red Soil/ Rouge

Directed by Farid Bentoumi, Red Soil is released as part of the French Film Festival that runs from Jun-Jul 2022. A young nurse has just been hired to help at her dad’s factory. In charge of the infirmary, she uncovers long-hidden secrets and arrangements between politicians, syndicates and industry leaders. Covering up about polluting waste, mishaps at work at employees falling ill, the young woman now realises she has to make the tough choice – would she become a whistleblower? Or, would she choose to stand by her father’s actions? Olivier Gourmet and Zita Hanrot are among those in the cast.

Annette

Alex Christophe Dupont’s signature touch is said to be evident in Annette, a musical drama. In the film, Adam Driver plays a stand-up comedian who falls for an opera singer, portrayed by Marion Cotillard. Both their lives are turned upside down with the birth of Annette – while one’s career flourishes, the other flops. Distributed by Amazon Studios, this film is also one of those in the lineup for the French Film Festival (held in Malaysia).

Spilt Gravy on Rice: Ke Mana Tumpahnya Kuah

Spilt Gravy (on Rice): Ke Mana Tumpahnya Kuah… An adaptation of Jit Murad’s play, this film is set to (re)gain a certain fanbase. I already like its tagline. This black comedy features names including Bernice Chauly, Rahim Razali and Sean Ghazi.

Bullet Train

Bullet Train, the book-to-film adaption, is based on the novel by Japanese mystery fiction author Kotaro Isaka. This action-thriller in which Brad Pitt is among those in the cast follows an assassin whose task is to retrieve a special, mysterious briefcase –on a bullet train full of other assassins attempting to accomplish the same.

Elvis

Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge) is back to direct Elvis, a biopic which depicts the relationship between a young Elvis Presley and his manager, Colonel Tom Parker. In an interview, Austin Butler revealed that he put his life on hold for two years to prepare to play the lead role. Butler will be playing his role alongside Tom Hanks, who was the first major celebrity to go public about the fact that he was a COVID-19 case – he had contracted the virus while filming for the movie in Australia.

I Wanna Dance With Somebody

I Wanna Dance With Somebody – Whitney Houston fans, you’re in for a treat this December 2022. This is yet another biographical musical film to consider. Houston passed away in 2012 due to a drug-related accidental drowning. Stanley Tucci and Naomi Ackie are among those in the lineup of cast members.
