For your viewing: Jangan Dulu by Heidi Moru (2025 music video)

If you enjoy and appreciate raw, soulful vocals, Heidi Moru might be one to consider. The way Instagram works now allows users to discover postings based on past browsing activity and thus Instagram comes up with suggested content, which was not the case previously. This is in case you’re wondering how I stumbled upon her work. Based on the Instagram post, which shared a snippet of the official music video, further research led me to realise that the accompanying music video for the heartfelt track was published on YouTube on 24 January 2025. To date, the underrated (song and) music video has slightly over 13,200 views.

At first listen, it may seem that Heidi is referring to a love interest and his disappearance, as reflected in lyrics below, which I believe is what makes the song powerful, for a song with such a tempo and feel.

However, one of the interpretations to this ambiguous music video is rather that it serves as an expression of self-love, despite its illustrations and even the reference of a clown. In short, do not depend on outside validation to feel satisfied and happy with yourself. You have to learn to be happy with yourself, despite your own shortcomings.

Aku hilang arah jika
Kamu pergi tanpa kata
Inginku ucapkan semua rasa hatiku

Jangan pergi dulu
Aku masih perlukan kamu

Heidi Moru, born Heidi Moruning is a Sabahan but based in Kuala Lumpur to work her way up as a singer-songwriter. Heidi is best known for her performances in Bintang RTM 2018, although she has been singing from a young age.

Heidi can also sing in English and has released works in English, in collaboration with other artistes. Heidi is an indie singer, who from her works, doesn’t plan to go mainstream. This is likely why you can see her videos and songs are distinctively her own, without too much pressure from the outside, telling her to conform to a certain way or standard.
Due to Malaysia’s multicultural make-up, its not uncommon to find singers who are bilingual at the minimum, or even code-switch in their creative works.

There are certain parallels between Heidi’s Jangan Dulu and Lenka’s The Show in terms of the message conveyed through the song, although they are entirely different in terms of beat and audience reach.

The music video is directed by Fimie Don. The song is composed and written by Heidi Moru and is part of her album ‘semoga panjang umur’.

The song is also available on Spotify and Apple Music.
