In cinemas now: ‘The Cave’ (2019)

image

I wanted to catch ‘Cats’ the musical film, which was not playing in the cinema outlet nearest to my place, so little did I know that I would close out the year by watching ‘The Cave’ instead. Based on a true event that occurred in 2018, this independent film is dedicated to one of the rescue divers who died when he ran out of air while delivering oxygen to those trapped in the Tham Luang cave in Thailand.  In fact, just days after the premiere of the film in Malaysia, news broke that another member of the rescue team succumbed to his year-long blood infection, which he contracted during the rescue operation.

Notably, there is always both sides to the impact of the rescue operation. On the one hand, we’re all ‘Yay’ for the boys and the coach. On the other, the farmers would have to think of alternatives for their paddy to grow well. These were clearly depicted in the film.

In this straightforward film, you will also get to see some individuals that were part of the rescue operation playing themselves.

In this ‘U’ rated film, you will also see how different reporters and/or journalists bring you the latest updates on the rescue efforts.

The audio is mainly in Thai and English, with some French and Chinese. Subtitles are provided in both Malay and Chinese.
