English singer-songwriter James Morrison has a new music video out in October 2025, following the demise of his wife in 2024. Sources indicate that Cry Your Tears on Me was written for a friend who was experiencing a relationship breakdown. With creative and effective use of change in tempo, the song is upbeat, although it contains elements of bitterness and sadness that comes with a relationship ending – knowing full well that you still care and love your partner as much. Morrison’s new track is a departure from his previous work, usually easily identified as soul, though you can always expect raw honesty from his lyrics and work. The 41-year-old singer has also worked on a duet with Jessie J, which resulted in Up, a track born out of Morrison’s relationship with his late father.
Morrison credits his distinctive voice to a severe bout of whooping cough (when much younger) that would have otherwise seen him having his life cut short. Miraculously, he survived.
His new song, whether you like it or not, proves his versatility as a singer-songwriter, as he is opening up to new genres.
Most importantly, the song is laced with messages of hope and interdependence and that you’d always have someone to lean on/can count on. Hence, the symbolic candles, as used for the music videos.
Cry Your Tears on Me, regardless of how the title sounds at first glance, is a song that adds life, energy and optimism to his new album, Fight Another Day (2025). It is a reminder that there are brighter days ahead.
Ultimately, Morrison intends to send his fans powerful messages about resilience, strength, and mental health – even when we all struggle and go through difficult times.
His growing up in poverty and a dysfunctional family likely influenced his experiences and his perspective of others. In school, Morrison was said to be more inclined towards music, while his other peers found comfort in sports. This unfortunately meant that he was bullied because he was different.
James Morrison debuted with his hit You Give Me Something in 2006.
Garnering slightly above 250,000 views, the music video is available on YouTube and has been released since 4 October 2025.
