Alongside Malaysia’s highway concessionaire and the National Welfare Foundation or Yayasan Kebajikan Negara (YKN), popular influencer Mekyun offered to help the victims of the Putra Heights fire incident that occurred on 1 April 2025, also the second day of Hari Raya Aidilifitri for Malaysians.
The Kelantanese Hokkien influencer checked out where the victims were temporarily stationed for the time being to ensure that these victims got what they needed before heading out to buy the necessary items to avoid disappointment and wastage.
The fire incident, which was due to a leak from the main gas pipeline linked to one of the petrol stations, is associated with a Malaysian oil and gas company. However, the petrol station was not on fire.
Based on the video posted on Mekyun’s accounts on social media like TikTok and Instagram, one of the victims got her house damaged by floods previously. Then, the fire that broke out made things all the more challenging, especially with the rising living costs as each year passes by.
Mekyun, or Wee Yun Nee, bought items such as colouring books, educational books, sanitary pads, as well as some food items to ensure that the victims, some of which are kids, are occupied and don’t go hungry, while under this temporary arrangement.
At the moment, these victims are placed at two large public places, one of which Mekyun has set foot on and assisted.
At present, the relevant authorities, including the state government and ministries, are looking into the matter and discussions are underway to better coordinate aid, as voiced out by the residents under distress.
An emergency call for the firefighters were made and fire engines arrived at around 8.20-ish am. By 9:30am, photos of the fire began circulating on social media. The fire, subsiding at about 2pm, was eventually put out at close to 4pm.
