Now playing in cinemas: Under Parallel Skies (2024)

Sigrid Andrea Bernardo of Kita Kita (2017) fame is once again at the helm of this romantic drama film. Perhaps the standout feature of this film is the different cultures presented to the audience: Cantonese from Chinese culture, Filipino from the Tagalog phrases used, Thai food as a nod to one of the main characters, as well as English – due to the historical events in the Philippines.

The familiar theme of travel and holidays are explored in Bernardo’s films. In Under Parallel Skies, the main character meets a friendly hotel staff, while on a quest to find a missing family member. As the story progresses, the challenge of staying in a foreign land becomes increasingly apparent, which in turn, propels them to uncover and unravel their identities and cultures, while attempting to break away from issues including self-doubt and loss.

Playing the main characters of this film are Janella Salvador, the Filipino singer-actress, as well as the Thai of overseas Chinese heritage, Metawin Opas-iamkajorn, who also has ambassador roles for Prada and Tiffany & Co.

Cultural collision and mingling are carefully explored in this film, which has the support of the Hong Kong Tourism Board. Distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, Under Parallel Skies is a venture between Two Infinity Entertainment and 28 Squared Studios.

Under Parallel Skies, which began showing on Malaysian silver screens on the 8th of August 2024, had its world premiere via the 17th Asian Film Awards in Hong Kong on 11 March 2024. Other than that, 17 April 2024 was when the film was shown in cinemas in the Philippines. The neighbouring Singapore and Thailand had theatrical release dates of within the first two weeks of May 2024.  Meanwhile, release dates have been set for cinemagoers in the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Vietnam and Cambodia.

While audio is mainly in English, there will also be Tagalog, Thai and Cantonese.

English and Malay subtitles are available for this film with a run time of 111 minutes.
