While many in my generation would have heard of Peabo Bryson via his Disney-themed duets, the now-deceased Bryson had done other duets, one of which was his collaboration with Kenny G.
If you need a refresh as to how the song sounds like, you can head over to YouTube or perhaps something similar to get the starting stuck in your head – because trust me, someone playing a sax, especially Kenny G, is sax-y. Hehe. Well, at least it’s a less common instrument rather than piano or flute, one of which Kenny G also plays.
Peabo Bryson was a singer-songwriter, popular in the circle of R&B and soul. Dubbed the one who taught us how to love, it’s no surprise he’s the voice of romance and also the King of Ballads.
His tenor vocals, smooth and emotive voice, helped showcase Bryson’s range in this dreamlike duet. Coupled with the skillful saxophonist in Kenny G, especially his runs, this song would make you feel like you’re flying high, like Bryson sings in the song about two fictional lovers (in the making).
Despite being quiet in tone, there’s a certain magic in the song that makes it wonderful to listen to it – repeatedly.
The song, written by a team that included singer-songwriter Michael Bolton and the Emily Dickinson of Pop, Dianne Warren, is featured on Kenny G’s 1992 album and Peabo Bryson’s 1994 album. The song was released in 1993.
The song peaked at number 25 on the US Billboard Chart and number 37 on the Billboard Hot R&B Singles.
Peabo Bryson passed away from complications arising due to his stroke, after his family initially said he was recovering from. Bryson was born in 1951 and passed away in early June 2026. Bryson’s love for music was sparked by his mother, who would often take the family to concerts.
As of today, Kenny G is 69.
