Potterland/potterland.officiel: The Instagram page for all Potterheads – albeit in French

image

Once a Potterhead, forever a Potterhead. Thanks to an experienced yet humourous teacher of the French language, I got hooked to this Instagram page, otherwise known as Potterland with its Instagram handle @potterland.officiel (or Official Potterland).

Did you know that Emma Watson, the one who plays the Ms. Know-it-All Hermione Granger, was born in France? Watson had lived in France until the age of five. So, these facts contribute to why French people do mention her. Perhaps, this could be one reason why the page was born.

In its French description, it can be translated to mean: You’re a wizard but you’ve yet to receive your Hogwarts letter. So why not join Potterland? And yes, Hogwarts is Poudlard in French, don’t ask me why.

Who would have turned the very famous brand LV into He Who Must Not Be Named? There’s also several cute, bizarre and haunting posts. One that I clearly remember is the how the Howler was recreated, to give out the desired effect – laughter. Although some are re-shares from other platforms, including TikTok, it’s as bizarre and defying the norm. For example, what would happen if Tim Burton directed or animated Harry Potter?

With a baking show coming up for streaming subscribers of Max, it’s unsurprising how this is one of the most recent posts. It’s so helpful and nice to see trailer descriptions and subtitles in French.

Then there’s a post on alternate titles (of the book series) if characters other than Harry Potter himself were to be in the lead. Oh my, it’s really brilliant and funny at the same time.

It’s just odd watching the dubbed versions of Harry Potter though. Oh well, it’s a page in French, anyway. It does sometimes drive me crazy how I don’t understand those posts though – and at times, I despise using Google Translate – because it makes users like me lazy.

And with most preparing for Christmas, what better way than to take all the Christmas-y posts in? Man, I’m this close to actually ordering the Christmas ornaments, especially the ornaments that read Mischief Managed and Expecto Patronum.

So, if you’re looking to re-ignite the magic, or just want to have a go at practicing your French (and English), this might be one way.
