James Blunt is now on flight mode and he’s going places with his humourous, witty series of videos, promoting his latest album “Airplane Mode”. If you’ve been following him since his early days, chances are you’d know his most famous song, You’re Beautiful, which he much later admitted that he shouldn’t have written it the way it was written because it’s easily misinterpreted. Even local Malaysian comedian, Douglas Lim, could not resist using it as material for his stand-up comedy performance, where he imagined having a phone conversation with Blunt. While his songs are usually about heavy and mellow subjects, his social media personality proves otherwise. He’s surely humourous and witty on his active, official accounts.
Now, when it comes to promoting “Airplane Mode”, there’ll surely be conversations surrounding the air mode of transport, airport check-in staff, baggage declaration and the like. Those of you who travel via flight would know the drill. So, considering that these promotional contents are to be funny, it must involve some clever twists, wit, humour and some hints of sarcasm. To that, I’ve gotta say that you must be both sharp and blunt in your humour, and Blunt definitely has the best of both.
Outside his musical pursuits, Blunt is also a business partner to Leonardo DiCaprio, who has invested in a British sustainable sneaker brand. So, featuring him in his promotional videos for “Airplane Mode”, which is expected to fly your way 6 November 2026, shouldn’t be too much of a surprise.
So, are you gonna switch your playlist to “Airplane Mode” soon?
“Airplane Mode” is Blunt’s eighth studio album, released under Atlantic Records. It was preceded by the launch of three singles “Tastes Like Summer”, “Weight of It All”, and “Circles”, all of which can be found on the album.
Blunt was born James Blount (pronounced the same way as “blunt”) and had joined the army, in the same way as his father, but left it in 2002 in favour of his music career. Blunt had, from an early age, learnt the guitar, piano and violin. He later began writing songs during the time he was in the army.
In conjunction with the release of “Airplane Mode”, Blunt will be embarking on a massive “Airplane Mode Tour” to Mainland Europe in February 2027, and then come back to the UK and jet off to Ireland somewhere in March, before his journey culminates in April 2027.
Blunt’s previous album was launched in 2023 and titled “Who We Used to Be”, in which one of the songs he had written was about his lost child due to miscarriage.
