Slithering in fashion, Google comes up with addictive, clever take on the classic Snake game through its cute and cheeky Doodles, in recognition of the Snake Year this 2025

Trust me, I welcome the Year of the Snake with hesitance – honestly, how many of you can actually like snakes as an animal? Hey, even in the Harry Potter franchise, Slytherin is the antagonist. Then again, I was proven wrong by Google.

To date, I’ve fed my in-game snake a total of seven mandarin oranges as my best score, though my knowledge of the updated version is pretty much on the surface level. Many of you observing the Year of the Snake across the world would have gone house-visiting, extending gifts and the symbolic red packets (to those able and qualified to give). Since the day has been pretty cold and I’m only receiving guests from the second day of the Year of the Snake, I thought what a fun and creative way to kill time – hey, all spring cleaning will have to be done by the Eve of the New Year because you want to have as many of the good things coming to you – out with the old, in with the new?

Anyway, as a non-gamer, it’s surely nice to explore this Snake game, especially because it gives you a sense of nostalgia, other than what else, but offer excitement and fun. The game is as usual played using the arrow keys. However, I noticed that in this version, turning the snake’s head a little too much will result in the death of the virtual snake, even if you’re heading in the desired and appropriate direction towards the orange.

You can toggle the settings of the game, although I’ve yet to click on that command. In this version, you can customize your snake’s appearance as well as its snacks.

The daily challenges also make this latest version stand out, though it is unclear how long this particular Doodle will be on for on the popular search engine.

But of course, this game shouldn’t stop you from enjoying the festive season with loved ones, going out when necessary, and munching on treats that are associated with the Lunar New Year.

Until the next post, here’s to hoping you’re not too frustrated if your in-game snake dies too many times.

Happy Year of the Snake!
