One of Tchaikovsky’s compositions ‘Swan Lake’ is set to be staged at Malaysia’s Istana Budaya in Kuala Lumpur. Now that we’re just days away from the first performance on the 26th this month at 8.30pm, those of you who had gotten your tickets must be thrilled, especially if you’ve also watched the production by a different organiser, when ‘Swan Lake’ went over to Genting Highlands in 2018.
In the world of ballet, ‘Swan Lake’ is no stranger. It is also common to see ballet schools performing an interpretation of the Russian composition, although its origins remain debated until today. Hey, there’s even a Swan Lake Dance Academy in KL ????. As a musical, ‘Swan Lake’ is still the longest-running ballet in both London’s West End and Broadway, the theatre district in New York City.
Considering how successful ‘Swan Lake’ is, it’s hard to imagine that it was at first a flop. Many liked the 1875 version better, which helped form the basis of many of the productions across the globe today.
Who’s ready to weep through the drama, romance and tragedy that describe this iconic ballet? Plus, it’s also accompanied by music that is expected to stir your emotions.
Tickets start from RM 100, inclusive of the additional ticketing fee. Performances are scheduled until 28th July 2019, with one slot every night.
As at the time of writing, the cast members are in Tokyo. After their stop in Malaysia, they’ll be in a few Chinese cities until end-September. Then, they’ll be in Seoul, before commencing their US tour in early December 2019.
I have this urge to see the classic, but then I had spent quite a sum for ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ musical when cast members were at the same venue last month, as part of their world tour. It looks like I’m going to have to miss out on this one too, after having forgone the previous one in 2018.
Dear organisers, could you let me know when those graceful dancers are coming back to Malaysia? I’ll be waiting for your response ????.
Until then, I’m going to re-watch Darren Aronofsky’s ‘Black Swan’.
