In light of the incident that took place at a public event involving a popular band, there has been a playlist for those who (attempt to) cheat on their partners at an event that’s supposed to be a relaxing evening or night for music lovers. That was just one couple. In fact, on another day, the same frontman had to ask a young couple whether they understood English and whether they’re legitimate. Now, the lead singer has put out a playful warning! You’re gonna be on the Jumbotron, folks! Get ready to be all dolled up! Better be wiser in bringing others to concerts.
Jolene – a classic by Dolly Parton, the country queen, most popular in the 1970s. The title of the song was inspired by a bank teller who kept flirting with her own husband. Parton needed a name for a song that tells the story of a woman so attractive, she might end up stealing her husband instead.
The Door – While it is about an abusive relationship and the whole process of leaving the toxic environment, this song is perfect for those who are victims of cheating, domestic abuse – verbal and non-verbal. I feel it is the perfect response to the whole hoo-ha that has overpowered the Internet. I mean, how does one perform such an upbeat, soulful song about something so piercing? Teddy Swims is guaranteed to sweep you away with his vocals, which has a certain distinctive yet timeless quality to it.
Masing-masing – A song that binds Indonesian Ade Govinda, the pianist, and Ernie Zakri, the rising Malaysian singer. Masing-masing means each. It details the deep pain of a woman, who has endured heartbreak after having gone through a relationship so hurtful. One of its lines read: Kamu berlaku bagai pemilik jiwa ragaku – It’s as though you own my body, heart and soul (when ideally everything should be by God’s will). After that, the woman describes her journey, moving forward, from that difficult form of coupling.
Sedang Sayang-Sayangnya – a song that cries about a relationship, that was initially loving, but ended up hurting more. Mawar de Jongh, who is of Dutch-Indonesian parentage, lends her vocals to this.
Disaster – JoJo, who is of mixed heritage, is fierce in this song about an existing relationship, which has turned rocky and destructive – unlike its early days when it’s all soft yet energetic and happy.
Adventure of A Lifetime – By now, I’m sure many of you would have heard the news. This is one of those songs that will gain a different interpretation from the perspective of those initiating and engaging in an/multiple extramarital affair (s).
Clocks – This is also one of the songs by the band and its frontman who unintentionally exposed the secret (during their own concert). Those of you who are of Chinese descent, you might or might not know of the significance of clocks – usually associated with time’s up, your days are numbered, or death. So be very careful how you spend your time with your loved ones, please.
Patah - Stacy Anam, the winner of Akademi Fantasia (season 6), has this 2014 song tied to her name. Seems like a winning vocal performance is not a solid enough reason to be chart-topping on the radio pre-Spotify, but post-YouTube. The song’s producers include Stacy herself, Omar K. and Kimberly Chin. The arrangement was done by a certain Felix Voon. This song has themes about feeling trapped, fallen, drowned by an initially fun phase (of the relationship), having broken wings. Despite this, the vocalist acknowledges the challenges and is determined to break free from a tumultuous relationship.
My Universe – This is a work between both the sensational South Korean act BTS and the British group that accidentally made themselves more famous by playfully exposing something hidden (at their own concert. Those engaging in fishy business, you might want to be careful!
Because – Jessica Mauboy, the 2006 Australian Idol runner-up, provides her smooth vocals for a song that’s full-on emotional. Mauboy, who is of Indonesian and Australian aboriginal descent, sings about how a relationship should be about balancing give and take. Obviously, that never happened, so that’s why this song is so memorable.
