Art and technology lovers are in for a treat as ZHAN Art |
Space, Petaling Jaya is joining forces with Hin Bus Depot, Penang to host Malaysia’s very first and one-of-its-kind art exhibition, gracefully supported by the Penang Art District. The exhibition is scheduled to happen at the same time, at two different locations, with one common theme. Ivan Gabriel, the curator of the exhibition, Of Spaces in Between, has selected a collection of works from 24 artists that showcases two different but complementary artworks based on the theme ‘duality’, each to be exhibited at the respective location. With the aid of Augmented Reality (AR) technology, viewers will get to explore and discover the artworks in an immersive way without having to travel to both locations.

Ivan shared that with Of Spaces in Between, the exhibition is to maximise the current technology available, taking a step further in enhancing the experience of a traditional art exhibition. With the help of PERK Reality, an augmented reality art app, viewers would be able to experience the physical artwork at one location and view the other augmented artwork through their phone; creating a harmonious dialogue. The exhibition aims to illustrate how duality is an ever-present theme in our daily lives, affecting every aspect of our existence. Kenny Ng, Project Manager of Penang Art District shared that this collaboration between Hin Bus Depot and ZHAN Art | Space is admirable and a strategic move to connect both Penang and Klang Valley art institutions together. Not only does it promote and showcase the diversity and quality of contemporary art produced across Malaysia, it fosters a greater appreciation of art appreciation among the public, encouraging dialogue and ideas among artists, curators, and audiences.

Hin Bus Depot, Penang kick started Of Spaces in Between last weekend while ZHAN Art | Space’s is scheduled to open for 15 April 2023, 3pm. Of Spaces in Between in Penang will close on the 30 April 2023 whereas it closes at ZHAN Art | Space on 15 May 2023.
