Keluang Man, the TV series, powered my childhood (and hopefully yours as well) in the early 90s. Apparently, the series ended in 2005. Fast forward two decades later, those who remember watching the series will surely be asking whether the film will actually be as striking and powerful (if not, more powerful than) as the original series, which is what the film will be based upon.
A little context on what’s the series about: Borhan, as a patient of a psychiatric ward, transforms into a masked vigilante superhero. As a former director, writer, and animator, the late Kamn Ismail directed and created the evergreen Keluang Man for the small screen. Inspired by Batman, Keluang Man is based on the fruit bat. Google honoured Kamn Ismail by having a Google Doodle on what would have been his 67th birthday on 8 December 2023.
Raja Jastina Arshad assumes the role of executive producer for this particular film, which has a runtime of 131 minutes. The Malaysian Censorship Board has rated this action film a ‘13’, which means you have to be at least 13 years of age to be admitted into the cinema hall.
Nas-T is cast as the main character and will play Borhan. Amelia Henderson is slated to play Kathy Ismail, while Halim Othman, the former host of Roda Impian, will also assume a certain role. Others in the cast include Dennis Yin, Azlee Jaafar and Shweta Sekhon.
Irwan Ahmad is the man behind the post-production editing. Irwan Ahmad has previously worked on the films in the Project: High Council series.
Andrew Bong provides the film’s music.
Audio will be in Malay, with bilingual subtitles appearing in both English and Malay.
Sources indicate that Keluang Man the movie will be the first in a five-part live-action series, although it is not entirely clear, to date.
The film will premiere on Thursday, 29 May 2025 in Malaysia.
