Wow, the Kelly Clarkson cover of Billie Eilish’s Birds of a Feather has been making its rounds on social media channels including Facebook, Instagram and TikTok. In late January 2025, the former American Idol champion performed the song on her own talk show, bearing her name – The Kelly Clarkson Show. In her own segment titled Kellyoke, Kelly and My Band Y’all took on the song and made it their own – with her signature style of belting a high note almost towards the end of the song.
As it is a cover, Kelly Clarkson only sang a small part of the song, prompting commenters to say – Hey, I want more! How the heck is this only X:XX minutes-long? in this case, I do agree with the commenters.
Although Kelly Clarkson started off slow, you can tell of her vocal range, as the song goes progresses, that it’s as if she is taking us on a flight – going higher and higher before descending to signal an end – in that rather short snippet.
Notably, as Clarkson explains, this cover is in conjunction with the 67th Grammy Awards show that took place earlier this month. In this show that recognises those in the music industry, Eilish was nominated in seven categories. Eilish had won nine Grammy Awards prior to this.
Kelly Clarkson has previously done covers of Billie Eilish other songs.
Billie Eilish is a 20-something American singer-songwriter, who first wrote Ocean Eyes at 13 years old and rose to fame with her track for the James Bond film No Time to Die. Billie Eilish is known to collaborate with her brother Finneas, who writes from his sister’s perspective rather than his own.
While both these female singer-songwriters have soprano voices, Billie Eilish’s voice is more slurring and melancholic – similar to Lana Del Rey’s, whose style has influenced Eilish’s.
The Kelly Clarkson Show is a platform for everything humourous yet uplifting and is currently in its sixth season.
Birds of A Feather can be found on Eilish’s album Hit Me Hard And Soft (2024).
