National Theatre (NT) introduces paid streaming service on the back of recent re-opening of physical live shows

It has been about 40 days since the National Theatre (NT) in London re-opened to physical live shows for a real audience. What’s more is that the NT has just announced its new paid streaming service, where theatre fans can catch some classic and popular favourites.

A combination of National Theatre Live and National Theatre  Archive productions is up for selection for you, should you choose to subscribe and pay for it.

Previously, for a number of months, the NT had screened some of its productions via YouTube for audiences worldwide for free – for a certain period of time. The final screening for free was in July 2020.

Some of the recently launched plays include Amadeus (2016) with Lucian Msamati, Coriolanus (2014) with Tom Hiddleston and Phèdre (2009) with Helen Mirren.

Since the National Theatre at Home service is available worldwide on a variety of devices like laptops, tablets and smart televisions (TV), I wonder how much it would be in Malaysian Ringgit. As a paid subscriber, you may choose from one-off, monthly or annual subscriptions.

I could re-watch Amadeus (2016) over and over again. What about all those plays that I didn’t get to watch when it was available for free? Ah, who knows?
