No, scratch that – ‘Cats the Mew-sical’ crosses out all Kuala Lumpur shows

Nobody likes cancellations, especially when it’s something you’ve been waiting for or looking forward to. But sometimes, cancellations do happen.

Unfortunately, all the Malaysian shows for Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ‘Cats the Musical’ have been called off. It was initially announced by the organiser that cast members from the international tour will stop by Kuala Lumpur in mid-January 2020. It would have been their second time to Malaysia, after having stopped by previously in 2002.

To date, it has been said that some changes to the schedule resulted in the cancellation.

However, its planned Singapore shows will go on from mid-December 2019 to early-January next year. It looks like Malaysian fans will have to hop over to the island instead. Various news sources have reported that those who have purchased certain types of seats/tickets are entitled to some extras. Meanwhile, Malaysian musical fans who have gotten their tickets and are hoping to catch the production in Singapore will stand a chance to have their seats upgraded.

Otherwise, refunds will commence 1 November 2019 (Thank goodness I haven’t bought my tickets).

‘Cats the Musical’ is an adaptation of TS Elliot’s poetry book on feline psychology.

In June 2019, another Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, ‘The Phantom of the Opera’, was staged in Kuala Lumpur’s Istana Budaya.

Here’s to hoping that the much-anticipated ‘Cats’ film, directed by Tom Hooper, will still be shown in cinemas in Malaysia as expected in December 2019.
