Now playing: Love Me Again (Again) (2026) by John Newman

John Newman, the Yorkshire-born deejay, singer-songwriter, is back with a re-interpreted version of his previous song, Love Me Again (2013), which is a modern twist of the classic Romeo and Juliet, based on one of the music video versions released (two versions of music videos were published).  Newman was told he had brain tumours twice and needed to go for surgery in 2012 and 2016, forcing him to step out of the spotlight for quite some time. He returned in 2020, but later felt that the attention he was getting was detrimental to his mental health and took another break, before making a comeback in 2026.

Fans of dance and electronic music (EDM) are more likely to lean towards this one, containing a more energetic and thrilling beat and a different, unique sound. Aiming to capture pure emotion, tension, and release rather than glitter and gloss, the visualiser features a solo dancer performing according to the beat, moving along to the song’s intensity. You can feel the buildup of the song into a full-scale dancefloor anthem, making it a departure from the original soulful pop version.

Notice that Newman’s pronunciation of certain words is slightly toned down in this version, making it a crucial ingredient for the beat and sound of an electronic beast. I like to think that he did it with intention and on purpose, which is why he’s outstanding in what he does.

Newman first wrote Love Me Again as part of his debut album and released it in 2013. Sources revealed that the addictive hit, thanks to his use of tremolo (vocal technique), was used in a FIFA 2014 football simulation video game, hence introducing the song to many (video) gamers. Love Me Again, which was penned for his ex, was used on several other occasions including in the television show “Suits”.

Newman’s move with Love Me Again (Again) symbolises that he intends to dive deeper into electronic music, while retaining his exceptional vocal power. Newman is the face to watch out for as he works to bridge the gap between pop, soul and electronic music.

He has worked with collaborators including British band Rudimental, Scottish singer- musician Nina Nesbitt and Scottish deejay and record producer Calvin Harris.

As of March 2025, Newman sold more than 6 million records in the UK alone. He has four UK Number 1 singles.
