On loop: The Right One (2024) by Spencer Crandall

The lyrics and performance videos of this song have been popping up on my Instagram feed, probably because Spencer Crandall, while primarily country, also cites influences from artistes beyond the genre including Ed Sheeran and Drake. I’d also listen to more of Ed Sheeran than Drake, anyway.

From how the song sounds, and the musical elements and instruments used, you can tell that it falls into the genre of country.

Crandall, the Tennessee-based artiste, hails from a family of music lovers. So, it’s unsurprising that he’s exposed to different kinds of music from a young age.

To date, there are three components tied to the release of this 2024 song – his Spotify launch, the performance video, and the unofficial music video, both of which are up on YouTube.

While the lyrics of the song seem to point towards romantic relationships, they can also lead you to set standards and boundaries for yourself. In short, it helps clarify the relationships we have with ourselves. The other interpretation is that sometimes, all it takes is some patience and everything will turn out fine in the end.

Initially starting in a lower key, the chorus takes things up a notch, exposing Crandall’s higher register, making it a showcase of his powerful vocals and an earworm to add into your playlist.

As the song progresses, his vocals are even more pronounced, building on from the bridge and previous verses.

The independent singer-songwriter has also been active on his TikTok account, promoting this song to a certain extent.

Crandall took advantage of the pandemic, during which many were sent into some form of restricted movement, to post videos of him singing his original music on social media channels.

Crandall himself wrote this song alongside two others including the talented songwriter Lauren McLamb.
