Signed, sealed, delivered: Supporting local bookstores even more – during this #StayHome, #StaySafe period

Yes! The books that I ordered last week finally arrived. A local bookstore that is facing more than difficult times now is running two different promotions – three for RM50 or five for RM50. I chose the latter option, by the way, since I’m quite a fan of their books. Or rather, I preferred the second list of books that was shown online. It must be pointed out though that I expected much more from one of the books, which was a collection of essays. I’m almost done reading the book; now I’m diving into another that has short stories, to do with one’s hyphenated identity and how the characters navigate their identities in an increasingly globalised world.

Man, if only I could have two more books at the promotional rate. I was tempted to get another book, a collection of essays on how Malaysians negotiate their identities in different scenarios – not only because some of my ex-coursemates’ excerpts of their works were featured in it, but because I think it’s important to stress on hyphenated identities, something I’ve started to appreciate since my exposure to Postcolonial and Diasporic Literature, a subject I did as an undergraduate at university level.

There’s this book on K-pop that has a certain academic lens to it. So I was curious about it, though, so far, I’ve only gone through a few of its pages.

One of the books I bought has a rather interesting title. The format of how it was written surprised me, especially because I rarely buy books from this author – and was in a hurry to click.

The last time I had stepped into a physical bookstore was around 10 days before the initial movement control order (MCO) was announced by the Malaysian government.
