This June 2025, other than getting yourself a professional stretch therapist to help you stretch areas that are difficult to reach via self-stretching, you’re in for a chance to stretch your Ringgit. This promotion is run to celebrate Dr Stretch’s two-year presence in Malaysia
It’s not always you’d get the chance to experience something Japanese in Malaysia (other than mainly food, language, concerts, and selected gardens). So, when Dr Stretch first arrived in Malaysia in 2023, I was obviously excited and curious. However, it must be said that a former swimming coach recommended and gave me the push that I needed to go for such sessions, which have been consistently excellent.
Dr Stretch was introduced by Mr Genki Yamaguchi, who formerly trained the US-based Boston Red Sox, a baseball team. Now the technique supervisor for Dr Stretch, Mr Yamaguchi refined the stretches to be of benefit to people of all ages.
As you can expect, there are proprietary techniques that make Dr Stretch stand out from many of the therapies available in the market today. The highlight is the rolling movement and some twisting, which are only found in Japanese stretch therapy. However, this is not in any way to say for sure that you can forgo all your other medical-related sessions and therapies. In fact, this will complement every other movement-based technique and therapy that you’ve been a part of.
As for the level of pain you’ll experience, it is really up to your frequency of stretching on your own and also how many active days you have per week. The stretches are designed to improve your range of motion so you can perform your exercises better and more importantly move with more accuracy so that the risk of injury is reduced. If you can communicate verbally, do please inform your trainer of your pain threshold.
If you’ve been through a sedentary lifestyle and are too lazy to stretch on your own, especially as a working adult or elderly or with limited mobility, Japanese stretch therapy is here to help ensure your muscles are awake (and not asleep).
It is also highly rated by athletes and sportspeople for its different techniques and how they are safely executed in the outlet.
New muscle memories are created, replacing old ones, removing old habits.
Depending on the slot availability and your budget, there’s always something for everyone. Sessions can be as short as 40 minutes, with a maximum of 90 minutes. They’ve even introduced sessions for kids.
For every trainer that you pick, unless you have specifically mentioned you are fine with anyone, there is a certain request fee to be paid, alongside your package lump sum. This request fee varies in amount, depending on the trainer’s level of experience/seniority level.
The promotion is for both new and existing customers, who are entitled to half the usual price, with packages that have a validity of one year. The actual amount that you’ll end up paying goes according to the duration of the session that you have picked.
Usually, for new customers to gauge whether it is for them, there is also a 10-minute free trial. So that’s a plus point of this Japanese concept.
For this particular promotion, it is only available at the 1 Utama outlet, also the first one to open in 2023. Due to the fact that the main branch is located within a shopping mall, its operating hours are up till 9pm at night from 10 am in the morning. You can perhaps slot in a session after (your office) work.
Other than that, you can expect exceptional service, Japanese style at all outlets. If you’re lucky, you might even get to experience a Japanese trainer, and perhaps join in the fun in having a language exchange session.
Till then, hope you’ll enjoy your stretch session!
