Known not only as a community entertainer but also Asia’s Number 1 Entertainer, the late Sudirman Arshad will be remembered by fans through a tribute concert by the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO). Through his songs, the late Sudirman had the capacity to bring together Malaysians in this multi-ethnic and multicultural Malaysia. Sudirman is also well-known for his personality, voice and dance moves, despite having studied law at university level. This 16 September 2023, which is also Malaysia Day, the MPO promises a first-time experience for concert goers – Sudirman in a form of a hologram. The organiser and concert director said they were inspired by what had been done in concerts by concert organisers in other countries. Such a move is done to also hopefully attract not only long-time fans but newer and younger audiences. After all, he passed away in 1992 at the age of 37, so many would want to enjoy his songs. This tribute concert is aptly held during a month that holds significant to many Malaysians.
Expected to be held at 8.30pm on the day, the concert will feature vocals by local singers including Liza Aziz, a former backup singer for Sudirman, and Ernie Zakri. Ahmad Muriz Che Rose will be the conductor for the night at the Dewan Filharmonik Petronas (DFP).
Held with the backing of Sudirman Asset Management, ticket prices are between RM288 and RM688.
