Earlier this year, I discovered a band while I was switching TV channels (on pay-TV). After thinking long and hard, I decided to write about this band, whose influences include (the Scottish group) CHVRCHES and those in the disco scene. Anyway, what’s interesting about this band is that it always finds ways to fuse the old with the new. Like the band name suggests, the band members are committed to bringing back the retro disco genre. Acknowledging the ever-changing trends and tastes of consumers in music today, the band also incorporates contemporary sounds into their music. If you take a peek into the band’s music videos, you’ll realise that they’re filled with colour. First-time viewers might find the shades a little challenging to process and make sense of (Hopefully, you’re not colour-blind). Now, with that in mind, I present to you a few of their music videos. Happy dancing! ????
Personally, I find ‘Plastic Hearts’ to have the most colourful (accompanying) music video. Those Barbie Dolls! Who remembers playing with them? For this particular song, the band worked with rapper Akeem Jahat, who has collaborated with other artists in Southeast Asia.
‘Call Me Back’ was written for those in long-distance relationships, the female vocalist of the band admitted. Is it just me or do I hear the influence of K-Pop? Psst… Psst… Kids, you might want to consider watching something else.
Okay, this is more of a lyric video rather than the band’s music video tied to the song. Good for those of you who tend to mishear/understand lyrics, don’t you think so?
Oh, the amount of nostalgia that watching this video brings. Go on, watch it and let me know what you think.
