I never thought I’d enjoy watching this so much. At first, I told myself that I’d only watch for around 20 minutes. Before you know it, I was absorbed into the performance, I didn’t realise I was watching for almost an hour!
Amadeus centres on the Austrian-born composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who began composing at the age of five. Those who have a penchant for both classical music and live theatre will surely appreciate this production, which has an excellently-written script.
The Italian Antonio Sallieri, another popular composer during the same time period, is introduced to Mozart. Sallieri is then faced with the choice of either promoting the prodigious Mozart or sabotaging him.
What choice would Sallieri make?
You’ll definitely want to watch this more than once.
Directed by Michael Longhurst, the two-hour-fifty-minute production is surely far from mediocre. It will send you dancing to the orchestra provided by Southbank Simfonia, make you perhaps slightly insane, maybe even long for some Krispy Kreme doughnuts, and then cry once you learn what happens in the end.
The play has been up on YouTube since 17 July 2020 and will continue broadcasting until 24 July 2020 2AM MYT.
