Watched: Tosca VR

image

It can be difficult to appreciate opera and understand virtual reality (VR). However, thanks to the effort by a UK-based company, you can now experience the world’s first made-for-virtual-reality opera through YouTube. Watching it just plainly via my smartphone got me excited and at times, overwhelmed.

The main difference is that virtual reality (VR) allows you to have a 360-degree view of whatever is taking place. Of course, it’s always best if you have a VR headset.

Tosca VR introduces and immerses you into an adaptation of Act One of Italian opera composer Giacomo Puccini to an Italian libretto provided by two librettists. Tosca, which is a version of the original French La Tosca five-act drama, is recognised as one of the best love stories.

Set in a place of worship, virtual reality also allows you to have a closer look at even the tiniest details – like the props. Both the performances and the audio are worth talking about. Who else is going to watch it more than once?

Directed by Christopher Lane, witness the 125-year-old opera in virtual reality.

The best part? It’s less than 20 minutes in terms of running time. Hey, it’s been streaming since end-February 2020.

Be right back, need to watch it for the third time.
