Wish granted – New Official Lyric Video tied to Britney Spears’ My Only Wish (This Year) (2000) out now on YouTube

As predictable as many Christmas songs may sound, putting out a new lyric video just about a month before Christmas 2025 of a song by Britney Spears, recorded in 2000, is a warm, delightful surprise – as fans have been longing for updates from the Princess of Pop, who went on to influence and inspire other musical artists and singer-songwriters. Feels like your wish is granted, in some ways. Anyway, you get the drift – Santa, writing letters, longing for a certain Mr. Right to magically appear and complete Spears’ own Christmas, which would otherwise be spent alone – and... in loneliness.

Even then, like most jazz-influenced music, My Only Wish (This Year) has a fast shuffle rhythm, prompting you (the listener) to bop heads and even groove along to the teen pop song.

In the new lyric video, you’ll find a variety of bright colours - pink, green, yellow – usually associated with the season, as well as shades of black and grey to balance elements out. The lyrics are in capital letters, making it attractive and easy on the eyes.

Josh Schwartz and Brian Kierulf both wrote and produced the song for its first release in 2000.  Though some were critical of the song, the four-minute plus song had gone on to chart in the US and elsewhere.

While there have been many cover versions, the latest to feature the original is via the Netflix film, Single All the Way (2021).
