“Boleh Boleh Jepun” is joining in the Hari Raya Aidilfitri fun by having their own version of the classic “Suasana Hari Raya”, originally by Anuar Zain and Ellina Razak. "Boleh Boleh Jepun", consisting of six members, has been working to bridge the gap between Japan and Malaysia by singing Malay songs in Japanese, although the band does have one in Chinese (for the Michael Wong song “Tong Hua” 童話, which was arranged and produced by Taichi Nakamura).
As opposed to the more exuberant original, this Japanese version is more laidback and cuter, helped by the more refined Japanese language. Interestingly, you’ll find that the Japanese version is as good as the original and as close as possible to the original, without losing its meaning, even with the different sentence structures found in both languages.
The band has been active on YouTube since 2008.
Accompanied by the saxophonist and two guitarists, there are two vocalists that harmonise accordingly.
The backdrop of the video is perhaps the highlight because among others, they consist of a rooftop (giving off the typical kampung house vibes), decorations, and cloths in green and blue, which are common Raya Aidilfitri colours.
The Japanese cover of “Suasana Hari Raya” will be the band’s final Raya cover this 2026, as the band has covered Sudirman’s “Balik Kampung” and Saloma’s "Selamat Hari Raya" in previous weeks.
In April 2023, the same band did the same “Suasana Hari Raya” in Malay – accompanied by another vocalist, who also acted as guitarist.
Outside of the Hari Raya Aidilfitri season, the band has been doing renditions of hits and classics including “Getaran Jiwa”, Hujan’s "Aku Skandal", and “Dinda” by Masdo.
As a Malaysia-based Japanese band whose member lineup changes according to song choice and suitability, there are covers of J-Pop and popular animes as well.
The band has performed in Malaysia at the Comic Fiesta, the AEON Credit Service Event, and at a Raya open house, among others.
The band also has presence on Instagram.
