“Sebuah Puisi” (2026), the calming music video linked to Amir Jahari, feels like a warm hug

Amir Jahari’s latest music video tied to his “Sebuah Puisi” (2026) is for you, if you’re looking to add some cuteness into your playlist. Employing stop-motion animation in music videos, while this isn’t exactly a new concept, it is seen as eye-opening as there are rarely Malaysians who can come up with this. Never mind the fact that it is a tedious process requiring one to be meticulous. While it is a feature more commonly seen in other media like movies (think Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride or Wallace & Gromit, the animated British comedy film series), there is surely another element to consider when using it with music – timing. That’s why Amir Jahari and his team took 10 full days to complete the animation and film the video. Those with an eye and appreciation for the visuals would notice the contrasting bright, light and dark colours used in the video, expressing sadness and happiness where appropriate, making it a colourful viewing experience that’s also guaranteed to make you smile, then get emotional. If anything, this should be a relaxing, comforting listen.

As the music video is directed and written by Indonesian model-actress and martial artist  Prisia Nasution, the lyrics contain a certain level of the Indonesian language. However, if you have an excellent grasp of the Malay Language, the base of the former language, it shouldn’t be too difficult to make out the lyrics, even when some words are spelt differently. Normally, the language in songs should be accessible to as many viewers/listeners as possible.

As usually explored in love songs, there’ll be one party unable to express what they feel directly in person because they feel inadequate in the relationship. This is where the “sebuah puisi” or a poem comes into the picture. As the song progresses, it turns into something more hopeful, with the lyrics expressing how a higher power should protect the both of them.

Amir Jahari, is a Kuching-born singer-songwriter, whose time on a Malaysian reality television singing competition, was cut short after just three weeks (in 2011). However, he rose even higher with “Hasrat”, the winning entry for Anugerah Juara Lagu ke-38 in 2024, which is an annual celebration of Malaysia’s best musical and lyrical compositions.

“Sebuah Puisi” is a Malaysia-Indonesia collaboration, given the proximity and similarities of both cultures.

The music video for the four-minute plus song has been up on YouTube since 26 March 2026.

Here’s to hoping there’ll be a “Behind the Scenes” video or an explainer video to expand on how the music video was made.
