Highclere Castle, ’Downton Abbey’ to host selected Airbnb guests for one night

Only God knows whether the ‘Downton Abbey’ film, which is set to pick up from where the six-season television series left off, will be shown in cinemas in Malaysia. I’ve been scrolling through my Instagram feed lately for news on it, but so far, the global release dates post on the official Downton Abbey profile has not been updated. Release dates have been announced for countries including Singapore, Taiwan, Egypt and Brazil. A commenter, who is likely Malaysian, said: “Kena gi Singapore lah camni” [Got to head over to Singapore, if this is the case].

But well, at least I know now that Highclere Castle, known to viewers as ‘Downton Abbey’, is available for short-term vacation rental on the US-based Airbnb. Do note that only two guests are allowed for the one-night-only listing/stay.

Hosted by the Earl and Countess of Carnarvon, the current occupants of the 5,000-acre estate, the two guests will need to book through Airbnb, where they will also have to craft a message to show how much they like the ‘Downton Abbey’ television series.

On 26th November 2019, guests will enjoy an evening of cocktails in the saloon, before being treated to dinner in the state dining room, served by a butler.

Then, coffee will be served in the library before you go to bed.

The following morning, after breakfast, be prepared for a private tour of the estate.

You can try booking in the afternoon on 1 October 2019 (UK time) but you must first have an Airbnb account and must have positive reviews from previous short-let experiences.

The winners will pay a sum of GBP150 (MYR 781) inclusive of reservation.

Guests with the most creative message will get to stay in one of the main bedrooms with an attached bathroom and views of more than 1,000 acres parkland.

Highclere Castle was formerly built and known as Highclere Place House.
