Singer-songwriter, composer Ingrid Michaelson is back with a new, intimate rendition of “The Way I Am”, previously released in 2006 with a unique accompanying music video that also features her own now former husband as one of the characters.

The performance took place as part of the Sidewalk Sessions presented by Lincoln Centre for the Performing Arts in New York in the lead-up to her in-person concert on 3 April 2026 at the same venue.

The version, streamed on YouTube from 27 March 2026, features a live band consisting a piano, the conga, and other string instruments, other than backing vocals.

Her in-person concert, slated to take place in the evening at the David Geffen Hall, will also feature names like Kim Onah, John Cardoza, and Micaela Diamond, all popular on Broadway.

The one-night only concert serves as a platform for genre-bending artistes, mixing heart with narrative through the music that they produce. In the case of Ingrid Michaelson, it is titled “Ingrid Michaelson & Friends: The Time & Space Between Us”, and part of a curated list, American Songbook, by Clint Ramos, a Tony Award winner. The latest showcase is a testament to Michaelson’s journey through the world of music by bringing together the echoes of both relationships from the past and present, examining how time moulds identity, and how stories live in all of us.

“The Way I Am”, part of her “Girls and Boys” album, is popular and memorable, as the song also found its way on the television series “One Tree Hill” and “Grey’s Anatomy”.

Born to a copyrights manager for a music publishing company and a sculptor of Dutch ancestry, Ingrid Michaelson has nine albums in her career of about 20 years and is a graduate in theatre, which likely explains the use of clowns/clown-like costumes in the song’s official music video.
