Anyone who would like to know more about Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber and the work that he has done will have the chance to do so this weekend – provided you have Internet access and are able to navigate through the video-streaming service YouTube.
This weekend (2 May 2020), be sure to check out the tribute concert held in 1999 at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Streaming for a limited period of 48 hours (if you live outside the UK), the concert was organised to mark his 50th birthday.
Some of his evergreen compositions and songs include ‘Don’t Cry for Me Argentina’ from Evita, ‘Memory’ from Cats, as well as the titular song from ‘The Phantom of the Opera’. Performers on that special day included Sarah Brightman, Antonio Banderas and Glenn Close.
To date, the dedicated channel on YouTube has run and removed the full shows of Jesus Christ Superstar, The Phantom of the Opera, Love Never Dies and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat.
Until the concert, here’s my favourite five-minute portion from the full show of ‘The Phantom of the Opera.’
