With such a song title, you’re surely going to go into shock and disbelief mode(s). Then again, to tweak the popular saying to make it in context, you shouldn’t judge a song by its title.
Teddy Swims, known for his 2023 single ‘Lose Control’, is now back with an even newer pop-soul song. God Went Crazy, a hyperbole, sounds like a tribute to his soulmate, the perfectly imperfect partner in his eyes. While its lyrics and melody are quite the usual, it is the buildup to the chorus, Swims’ distinctive rasp and vocal range that make the song energetic, powerful and thus qualify as an earworm.
Critics say that the song focuses on the person’s physical attributes rather than what’s on the inside, despite effort to make the song more colourful through its words.
The music video’s vibrancy makes up for this though.
Teddy Swims is adopted for the stage and his last name was picked from the acronym Someone Who Isn’t Me Sometimes, which is lingo used specifically in internet forums.
His maternal grandfather indirectly influenced Swims’ musical style and vocal ability. Swims’ father also introduced him to a variety of soul musicians and artistes.
This is his latest as part of his new album I’ve Tried Everything But Therapy (Complete Edition), set to be out at the end of June 2025.
Swims started out posting covers of popular songs by the late Michael Jackson, Lewis Capaldi and the late Amy Winehouse. Prior to that he participated in musical theatre.
Swims’ birth name is Jaten Dimsdale.
